The main difference between the Roland VersaStudio BN-20 and BN-20a is the ability to print white or metallic inks.
The BN-20 comes standard with a 5 channel system CMYK (and the 5th channel is generally filled with an additional magenta) Users have the option to add white or metallic inks instead of the extra magenta. This however is not a popular option as most users are printing on white media anyway, so no need for white ink. Most of the media is white: t-shirt material, sticker material, sign material. The white ink does add additional maintenance and cost, so many users opt out of this. White ink is generally used for printing on clear media. This is part of the reason Roland came out with the BN-20a.
The BN-20a is a 4 channel system, CMYK. This simpler system is also at a reduced cost to the customer. Quickly becoming our most popular system.
If your business is interested in printing with white ink, be sure to discuss this with one of our pros. They will help guide you to purchasing the correct system and accessories for your business.
If you are like most businesses, the BN-20a is an excellent choice since printing white ink is not as popular with print and cut systems.
