The dimensions of the SpangleElite are 23.34" x 23.62" x 11.81 Tall. So the height is about 12 inches. In regards to space needed behind the machine, there is not a lot needed. Transfer paper will move from the front to back of the machine, so you will not want it directly up against a wall. 6-12 inches should give you plenty of room behind it.
